So I have long (a few inches past my bra) hair that is very thick, and due to several factors, also very fine. This is a nightmare combo for detangling - I have recently been using the "Wet" brand detangling hairbrushes, but it still feels like I am ripping through my hair. Rake combs just don't get in-between the fine hair enough to properly detangle. I'll add in here that my hair & skin are chronically dry, and I seem to always have this section of hair about 3/4 down that is unmanageable, regardless of my split ends. Adding in product helps with detangling, but weighs my hair down.I researched this brand a bit after several friends recommended, and yes, it's more expensive than any hairbrush I've bought, but the company has a solid reputation for quality and it's warrantied for life. I actually found a MP brush in my grandmother's cabinet from decades ago & it's in perfect shape, even after being through dozens of kids & grandkids. This detangling brush goes right through my hair, detangles everything without product, and feels amazing on the scalp (and I have a sensitive scalp that is not a fan of bristly brushes). It's also fantastic for getting all of my hair up in a ponytail or bun (I have other MP brushes now, but this one really grips and holds all of my hair up without having to use any pressure - I smooth with the popular mixture brush after pulling up the hair with this one). I don't blow dry my hair, but I do get a respectable amount of volume when I brush it after it's air-dried a bit as well. The brush is solidly built, appears legit compared to my other MP brushes. The packaging is attractive, they've clearly retained their older branding & it stands out nicely - I'll definitely keep the boxes for travel or storage (also, keep your packaging & receipt because they are lifetime warrantied & you may be asked for it if you request repair/replacement). It comes with a nylon cleaning brush which does seem to work effectively. There was some red residue on the brush from the packaging insert, but it wiped off easily. If you have oily hair, or don't want the natural bristles in the other MP brushes, this would be a great everyday brush. It is enjoyable to use and gets right through my hair without pulling or snagging, whether my hair is wet or dry. It feels solid in my hand and is a handsome brush to look at. My hair is noticeably smoother than even a few days ago with almost no product. I've used cushioned paddle-style brushes before & this definitely has a softer hold. If you do blow-dry your hair, I probably would also incorporate a vented, non-cushioned brush to avoid damaging the MP brush with product or direct heat - but I've also got less need to blow dry after using this one.Overall, I really love this brush. I will probably also buy this for my long & curly-haired niece since it is that gentle of a detangler. The cost is absolutely worth is (as are the more expensive natural-bristled MP brushes), and it's a very effective brush that should last for years. It will need to be properly cared for (it should not be submerged b/c of the vented cushion and exposure to lots of product or heat will degrade the bristles & bed), but that's been the case with any high-quality beauty product. I've since bought other MP brushes & combs and have been similarly impressed.I love the way my hair feels after brushing itThis is not my first Pearson Mason brush. My last one I had for fifteen years. So while it is expensive, it does hold up well.At this price point you would expect it to come in some sort of carrying case or feel a bit better made. I guess the price is the bristles (JUST the bristles). It arrives in a plastic tray with an instruction pamphlet and the brush itself is plastic. I was expecting a bit more given the reputation and price. Works nice on hair but that should be expected for a $200+ hairbrush…Top of the line hairbrush. I have used these brushes for decades. It's the same quality that attracted me in the beginning.I was SO reluctant to spend $100 for a hair brush. I consider I take decent care of my hair and buy quality products, I'm in my mid thirties, bleach/dye it on the regular schedule, and use hot tools on it a few times a week to style it. I avoid products where any primary ingredient is alcohol, try to be on schedule with my hair cuts, and wash my hair every other day (or three days) if I can extend it. But sometimes I feel dry shampoo products weigh down my roots, and don't "comb through" my hair enough. And then I used the Mason Pearson brush... WOW.1) I've never had the natural oils from my roots "brush down" into the rest of my hair so easily and help "spread the grease"//make 3rd day hair look less greasy. I can use less dry shampoo, and then when I brush it through my hair, it gives a much more distributed consistency and appeal than ever before2) I have wavy thick hair, falls past my shoulder blades, (as mentioned, bleached, hot tools, etc). It gets knotty after a day of running around the city and because of curls, on occasion I'll get aggressive knots in a bottom layer (feels like a dreadlock forming.) I used to have to pull and pull and tug my entire head in brushing these knots out to be left with a clump in one hand, and a pulled straight hair remaining. Now with the Mason Pearson, somehow with a few strokes, it gets the knot out, keeps curls or wave in my hair. This brush has managed to help me extend my hair between washings, distribute the natural oil of my hair more evenly, and extend my styling during this time. All without being too aggressive while still brushing out knots and tangles.I'll be diligent to take proper care of this brush, but also never not have it on me!Used Mason and Pearson brushes since I was child. Always good quality! Would highly recomend this for yourself or as a presentThis was a birthday present for my granddaughter as I have used a Mason Pearson hair brush for years. FabulousVery new to me! So far, I like it for brushing dry hair! I use the Wet-brush for wet hair! My thick, long hair brushes out in seconds when it’s wet!Worth every penny. My hair feels so clean between washes.I love this brush. I had researched the best boar bristle brush and landed on this choice. I'm happy I did. Product was authentic and arrived earlier than projected. No complaints.
